Our Community and History

During the 1990s, Gwinnett County experienced significant development, leading to increased job and business opportunities. This growth, by the grace of Allah (SWT), catalyzed the expansion of the Muslim community in the region, highlighting the need for a new place of worship to serve this burgeoning population.

The genesis of GIC dates back to December 2004, when approximately 15 community members gathered in a banquet hall to initiate a fundraising campaign for a new musallah. With the help of Allah (SWT), GIC was officially established as a non-profit organization by the state of Georgia in January 2005. By October of the same year, GIC had signed its first lease for a modest suite in a strip mall in Suwanee, owned by Peachtree Properties.

The community's rapid growth necessitated the leasing of two additional suites within just four years, underscoring the essential role of GIC/Suwanee Masjid in accommodating the needs of its expanding congregation, Al-hamdulillāh! By the grace and blessing of Allah (سبحانه وتعالى), the construction of our purpose-built masjid at 80 Celebration Drive began in 2015 and was completed at the end of 2019. Al-hamdulillāh, the new Suwanee Masjid/Gwinnett Islamic Circle opened its doors to our brothers and sisters for the very first time beginning with I’sha salah on Tuesday, December 3, 2019.

In March 2020, due to the COVID-19 pandemic, families were asked to pray at home to prioritize the health and safety of our GIC community. We will never forget the Taraweeh nights spent in our homes! By the mercy of Allāh (سبحانه وتعالى) after several months, we were able to resume prayer services while adhering to COVID guidelines.

GIC Suwanee Masjid is honored to serve approximately 1200 - 1500 attendees every Friday for jumu’ah (across two salahs) and 4500+ community members during the Eid holidays (three salahs).

Construction of our multipurpose building began in 2021, and opened in the Fall of 2023. This building serves various purposes, including salah overflow, marriage services, receptions, meetings, fitness classes, youth sports events, educational seminars, Sunday school activities, and more!

We are blessed with significant growth in our community in recent years. There is always something happening at GIC. Please visit us regularly, in shā’ Allāh!
